I deeply believe poetry has a transformation power, nor just for individuals who write or love reading poetry but also for the society we live in.
Through poetry we can help others to have a critical and active voice in our community.
Thinking about it, I have some "poetic project" to be focus in 2017
1. Poetry In Action: Participating and supporting local groups initiatives which impact positively our community.
2. Art Is A Bridge, Not a Wall: working in partnership with a local library in Jamundi (Colombia) to create virtual events which creates a link between local artist in Newham & Jamundi.
3. Poetic Roots: An invitation to write and performance in our mother language.
4. Startford Poetry School: The first poetry school in our area - free for our community. A formal and professional course for people who wants to improve their writing skills and also learn how to performance their creations.
If you wan to be involve in it, please keep in contact: firstname.lastname@example.org

www.youtube.com/watch?v=teqHeP1od7MI have been writing poetry since I have memory. Even when I arrived to London I kept writing in Spanish ( my first language) it has been recently that I start to write poetry in English.
Being organizing and leading Stratford Poetry Group has been an amazing experience and a good opportunity to encourage myself to write poetry in English.
I have noticed how different my mind works and how I express my feelings through another language, it is not only about my vocabulary but also how I express myself and how other people can receive and understand me.
I can see how different we could think just for the fact of talk in another language.
When we have some creative games during our sessions I wrote in Spanish or English and even for the same topic my poems looks very different. It is a deep journey diving into, no just my feelings but also into a different culture and how my mind react about that.
It is not just about poetry I guess, it is also about life.
Here one of my poems from the "Deep Journey" - poetry Booklet.
Waiting room - By Sonia Quintero
I wear my best dress
carefully choose my earing,
and my t-shirt
colors needs to match
I am ready !
Even if your chair is still empty
I will be waiting for you.
Playing with my cup
avoiding seeing my watch
I don't want to believe
you will not be here again.
Oh no, maybe it is just you being late
drink another tea
you will be here soon
I am sure.
The sun disappears
the moon comes to me
and you haven't arrived yet.
I have been in this room before
I remember now
thousand years waiting for you
imagining a hug and a kiss.
But you are still not here my dear
It sounds like ages ago
when you said: wait for me.
I wrote a story in my mind
as I needed to have an end
a proper good bye, wishing you all the best.
I close my journal
you are not here yet
and I will not be again.

I would like to share with you the great success we had in our 1st summer poetry festival
It was an amazing opportunity to share with the community, and also acknowledge the amazing talented people we have here at Newham.
It was a powerful and inspirational afternoon and I have already start to work in our next big event: Poetry exhibition on August Sunday 21st 2016 at Stratford library.
As open mic was so successful, it will be part of all our events, so please keep writing!
On Sunday we had music, Tuomo K. playing his guitar, Alvaro Suarez's exhibition, open mic where talented people from all ages participated and I invited to Pilar lopez, a Spanish singer, poet and activist to join me in my last performance.
Here the video.
Our poetry gatherings are an amazing opportunity to share our poems but also to have inspiration to keep our creativity working.
Last time one of our local poets brought some exercises and games that were so helpful in our process and also very fun. We had deep and sophisticate poems and also some reflection about the simplicity of life.
Here one of them:
the honey of my mouth
Oozing the peaceful rhyme, flowing from my chew
sniffing the fragrance of the sweet curves
snoring ever so loudly in the hidden gems
squeeze all of them....
seeing my mouth with all of those things, which lies with peace
Sweet tree with a sprout of joy
stretch for greeting
and ripe in my mouth
chewing the delight colour bag
of which come with melody
creeping out of my pocket
The garden of opportunity
is the land that's wither away
due to the tasting of sweet dreams
that you're sent into
the black hole
The brand you brought
if you knew to chew bitterness
and the sweetness of the tree
are passing out of breath
can we grow another sweet tree?
when the taste is gone?""
